All is not lost for Twilight Markets as organisations quickly fill the void
Rushmere Shopping Centre and The West Armagh Consortium have stepped up to offer their services
The confirmation that the Twilight Markets would not feature among ABC Council’s programme of Christmas events this year has undoubtedly come as a disappointment to many.
It has also been a fervent talking point in our office following Scott's interview with past Twilight trader and artisan drink producer, Nicky Jackson of Jackson Roze - which you can read here.
Like us, Nicky felt it a shame to let such a well attended and much anticipated event fall by the wayside. Especially given the huge boost it has been in previous years for local craft and artisan traders.
A sentiment that was shared by many in our comments section and also, it seems, by the folks at popular Craigavon-based shopping centre, Rushmere.
In a welcome announcement yesterday (October 2) Rushmere swooped in to salvage the last of the Twilight Market's dying embers by offering to host the market this year alongside their annual Christmas Light Switch on and arrival of Santa.
And, the public rejoiced! One person commented: "Good on Rushmere keeping Christmas alive!"
The centre have advised interested artisan food businesses to reach out to them directly by contacting csd@rushmereshopping.com.
Said a Rushmere representative: "We look forward to keeping the Twilight Markets alive, and welcoming you all to Rushmere to celebrate."
Similarly, Armagh-based voluntary umbrella organisation, The West Armagh Consortium have also stepped up to the plate recognising the need for a more localised solution here in Armagh city centre.
They said: "Folks we have been contacted by a few local small business looking us to hold a Twilight Market in the run up to Christmas.
"We hold our Christmas Light Parade each year and we would be happy to hold a market if the need is there. Our Parade is on Friday the 13th of December.
"If there is enough interest we will set the wheels in motion. Please get in touch asap."
We might be getting our Christmas wishes early this year!

Good on them for stepping in 👏
What another farce for ABC council and another deathly blow to the town centre in Portadown. Rushmere can see the benefit of these great small local traders and it just does wonders for their Christmas appeal. Nice one ABC hang your heads in shame along side the other market fiasco. Should be welcoming and facilitating small local traders and giving the town a buzz. Instead they are chasing traders away. Waken up
