'Car-destroying' ramp has engines revved-up in Banbridge
Public weigh in on the potential 'dangers' of new speed reduction measures
A new ramp installed at The Boulevard shopping outlet in Banbridge has got some road users into a bit of a spin.
Installed at the exit lanes just beside the Game of Thrones park-and-ride, the new ramp will have been designed to help limit speed in an area plagued with the usual boy racers and other late-night motorists.
Ironically, something that’s been introduced in order to slow people down and help prevent injury, is actually being lambasted online for quite the opposite!
Photos of the new ramp have been shared on the social media page Banbridge Area News and quite literally hundreds of people have weighed in with their thoughts.
The page described it as “small, but lethal”, meaning any motorist who leaves The Boulevard at too high a speed may well be putting their suspension at risk!
One unlucky driver who had the misfortunate of running over it commented:
“I drove over this yesterday and braked to almost a stop but it still wasn't enough to stop the horrendous thump.
“Really hoping it hasn't done permanent damage to my car. I understand the need for ramps as a speed deterrent/safety measure but this is a complete disgrace!”
Another said:
“I thought people were exaggerating…. Until I hit it.”
The sheer quantity of comments and shares on the above post got us thinking in the office about how seemingly simple and small changes to a road system can cause chaos and outrage amongst drivers.
And among all the discussion, people seem to be conflicted, with some pointing out the potential for damage to their vehicles, and others saying it’s a 20mph zone for a reason!
The first ever Armagh I story was actually posted 12 years ago this week, and in that time, we’ve dealt with no shortage of disgruntled pedestrians and politicians calling for speed reduction measures on their street.
Sometimes however, the solution to road issues can very often become yet another problem!
