Scarva really getting into the swing of things!
Welcome to the Armagh I newsletter. Great to have you here! This newsletter will land in your inbox every Tuesday and Friday morning and is a slightly different read. Help us to connect with others by sharing this edition.
Over the past week we have been baking in the sizzling sunshine – Sunday being recorded as the hottest day of the year so far – and the hot weather always affords us the opportunity to get outdoors, just as many of you did over the weekend.
Some of our smaller villages really got into the swing of it - and Scarva was where everyone seemed to flock.

Yes, Scarva may be synonymous with a different type of band, but on Sunday the tones of Poyntzpass Silver band rang out over the small village live from the beautiful Victorian bandstand.
Cars lined both sides of the main street and crowds sat on deck chairs, railings and planters as the band played songs from Queen and other famous artists.
Scarva’s famous bandstand resembled something of a time machine that took the crowd back to the days when live silver or brass bands were a weekend’s entertainment. Reminiscent of the days of the aristocratic garden party, onlookers reclined in their garden chairs and applauded in unison the closing of each piece.

It’s not just Scarva that provides a means of free entertainment. For example, a meander along the towpath in the direction of Portadown may bring you upon Moneypenny’s Forge and Lockhouse.
Many have passed it but how many of have stopped? The restored 18th Century lock-keeper’s house, stables and bothy contain a ‘Life on the Canal’ exhibition and part of the lock-keeper’s house, containing a typical early 1900s interior, is also open to the public.
