Unfortunately, it’s not an uplifting start to your Friday. We have reported on the communities – and more importantly, the families – across the locality having come to terms with the devastating loss of four young lives.
This morning, Sean McMahon, originally from Cullyhanna and a highly-respected doctor at Craigavon Area Hospital, should have been waking up to prepare for his wedding; instead his family, and heartbroken fiancée, Debbie, are preparing for his funeral on Sunday. A young man who collapsed at South Lake Leisure Centre on Tuesday, before passing away in the very hospital he helped save lives in, days out from what was going to be one of the happiest days of his life. Comprehending that tragedy will be impossible for his heartbroken family – and our thoughts go out to them.
Similarly, Co Armagh woman Rebecca Ilunga, who lost her brave battle with cancer just a month after her fifth wedding anniversary. She, just like Sean, was only 31. Her loss immeasurable!
Mother-of-four Aine Maney, from Ballyholland, outside Newry, also lost her long battle with cancer. The family – just as Aine did – fought hard to see her defeat cancer for a third time in just two years, but as one tribute read, ‘Aine, you fought the good fight and now have finished the race’.
And only last Saturday – less than a week ago – young Matthew Hanna, from Portadown, died suddenly. Another family left heartbroken.
A dark cloud hangs over so many families and our thoughts are with all of them.
