Political farce and gargoyles!
Good morning. I thought I'd throw out a few questions on social media over the weekend, half in response to my the request about finding more things to do for free in and around County Armagh. Of course, some of the comment threads descended into a political farce but that isn't unusual, sadly. However, there were a lot more who engaged in the spirit of it. Plenty of nice answers - a list of our parks, from the obvious (Gosford) and Ring of Gullion, to the likes of Darkley Forest (it's great with it's fairy theme) and Glenanne (newly refurbished), as well as Ballymoyer. There's Oxford Island and walks around the Armagh Observatory - with a decent vantage point of the city. There is also the gargoyles of Armagh, dotted in various random locations around the city centre - well worth a chase some Sunday afternoon. There are plenty of things to do and perhaps worth an article in itself. One for the editorial calendar. Check out the Facebook thread here.
I also asked about summer holiday memories, given it was July 1 on Saturday. The answers were well and truly nostalgic - summers were warmer and brighter back in the day...says the boy barely into his 30s..! How about makeshift tennis courts when Wimbledon was on! Those fresh tennis balls!!
Speaking of age, I think it would be remiss of me to go without mentioning a happy birthday to Rikki who turns 40.....in a few years time! Not quite there but a big happy returns to him on his birthday today!
Anyway, on with the news...
