Queen Elizabeth II - local tributes to Britain's longest serving monarch
It was news we knew we would hear one day and over the past 6-12 months, the reality of the Queen's passing was, unfortunately, becoming more apparent, especially after her planned trip to Armagh was cancelled, but it still come as a shock when it did on Thursday evening. Despite that particular announcement by Buckingham Palace earlier in the day that "doctors were concerned" there was still some hope the longest serving monarch in British history would pull through. That markedly worded release was merely a holding statement to allow family members to make their way to Balmoral where Queen Elizabeth II had peacefully passed away.
Tributes flooded in from every corner of the globe and will continue to do so. We have rounded up the local acknowledgements from right across the political spectrum, for what was quite simply a remarkable woman.
