You can always rely on Christmas to bring forth a sense of community. A time of peace and goodwill towards men. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have that sense of camaraderie all year!?
The saying, “there’s always someone less fortunate” whilst a little melancholic, is certainly a poignant phrase at this time of year and never was it better illustrated than when life handed a Portuguese community eggs and they made sandwiches – not for themselves - but for the homeless…
In recent weeks, Richmount Rural Community Association, saw their kindness paid forward by the very people whom they intended to help.
The group had been inundated with eggs and crisps from a local supermarket via Foodcloud. They then passed on the donations to their local Portuguese Community, many of whom are in ‘real financial stress and food poverty.’
However, despite their own circumstances, the Portuguese community decided to share this food and help the Homeless in Belfast.
The association received this message from Sonia on behalf of the Portuguese community: "Thank you so much for the eggs and crisps which will go to the homeless in Belfast tonight. My friends made sandwiches with the eggs."
Thankfully, there are plenty of stories to warm the heart of a frosty December eve (or morn!)
Three staff at St Ronan’s College in Lurgan also took part in a 24-hour sleep-out for the homeless on Friday in a bid to raise vital funds for local charities and young Jessica-Lee Davidson made trips to Belfast with mum, Orlena to distribute her hand-crafted care-packages for Belfast’s homeless.
Feel free to tell us about your own efforts - or that of someone you know - to pay it forward this Christmas…🎄
