Why is so difficult to find a bin in Armagh?
Good morning folks! There's been a bit of a theme to our conversations this week - the general state of the place! Now, we're not here to slam the area but where there's a theme, there's usually a fire. Carla Lockhart pointed to the current state of Portadown and Lurgan town centres. The comments underneath her social media post were akin to the lighting the touch paper. Everywhere seems to be affected by general cleanliness issues.
It's a story not unusual for a local publication and we are no exception. We did have someone contact us directly through this newsletter to highlight various issues in Armagh city centre. Again, there was a theme.
The city centre wasn't the most inviting at the time this couple and their children were in. It was a Thursday day time. Some of the more unsavoury elements can't be helped but a drunk man slumped over a table outside a popular establishment is not the image any area wants to portray; how this can be remedied..? I don't have those answers.
Others groups of individuals unnecessarily causing a nuisance was another issue for this young family, who were taking a walk around the town as they waited for an appointment for their kids.
The lack of bins was a particular gripe, especially with several ice cream tubs to discard! Is Market Square home to the only bin along that thoroughfare through to the Shambles? Even in the Shambles there's a distinct lack of a public bin....
Why is it so difficult to find a bin in Armagh? What are your experiences of our town centres? Are they similar to this family's? Does more need to be done? As always, drop us a message or reply!

‘Conventional’ would not be the word to describe Petra Carroll. Her route to business, whilst not perhaps a stereotypical journey, is a reassuring one. She demonstrates that the key to success is intrinsic. It’s something she believes we all hold.
