I agree with Glen Wilson. We can't get appointments and Glen works so hard for us all. 3 months wait for an MOT test on my 4 year old Renault Clio. Only 40k miles on it. MOT every 2 years as the system is broken. Let the garages issue MOT certificate for cars up to 7 years old. This needs urgent treatment. NOW!!!
The main crux of Glenn’s argument is the simple fact that there clearly aren’t enough civil servants to carry out the work, which is causing the problem in the first place. I don’t think Glenn, or any mechanic, would have an issue if there were ample civil servants carrying out the work and motorists were able to get test dates.
That is reasonable, and the solution is to pressure politicians to employ more Civil Servants.
Privatisation will lead to what exists in England: a free for all in which money changes hands to secure a certificate and dangerous cars are left on the road.
Nothing wrong with a man working hard for himself - don’t we all? And if you make more profit by working harder, sure isn’t that ok. People know the reputable garages and I would be happy to see Glen carry out my MOT.
I am afraid you don't understand the term "profit". Work you do by yourself produces wages/salary (for you). As you rightly say, work harder and earn more if you like.
Profit, however, is something you make by taking a part of someone else's work.

Glen works hard for himself. He wants privatization to allow him to make more profit. What does he pay his assistants I wonder?
Objective Civil Servants, with no financial incentive, are best qualified to carry out MOTs.
