Is the Shambles Yard being under utilised – or even misused?
On Friday morning past, our roving reporter, Scott, made his way down to meet the traders of Armagh Market in the Shambles Yard. His mission was to speak to as many of the traders as possible.
Getting around to all the traders wasn’t as difficult as it should have been – there were six. As the years have rumbled on, the numbers of traders have dwindled.
In case you missed it, you can read Scott’s article here but it provoked quite the debate on what more could be done to utilise the Shambles Yard..
An obvious suggestion by many was to have the market on a Saturday. Readers suggested allowing new traders in for free to begin with; build it up again and entice more customers in. There were suggestions of making it a tourist attraction on a monthly basis, a market coupled with music and food etc.
