The Councils here set the rates and the massive amount charged for business rates are crippling many small businesses. Despite numerous items mentioning the high rates all we get is new rises every year. Cut back on the wastage in-house in Councils and then maybe just maybe the annual rates increases won't be needed and more businesses might survive. The fewer business that go to the wall then the larger pool from which to get the money needed. Not rocket science.
