It looks like this story may rumble on a little further down the line. More to follow…(possibly…probably)!

The SRC director, Libby Shackles, came into the coffee dock at around 9:15 on Monday and told the students who were in there, including myself, that the space would close at 9:30 as a deterrent for “students not attending classes”. When challenged by a student who asked about where else we should go on our breaks, Libby instructed the student to go to the library as they have “plenty of coursework to be doing”.

I find it strange that the spokesperson is claiming the closure is due to staff shortages when we were told face to face from the director that this isn’t the case.

This purports to be a College not a school. The idea of "truancy" seems rather out of place. Perhaps College management should address their behaviour and grow up.

Disgraceful behaviour. These students are our future adults and need to be treated as thus. If a few decide to truant then that should be dealt with by the tutors not by closing down the coffee Dock for everyone. It would be far worse if these young people were chucked out on the mall or elsewhere as God only knows what would happen them. Treat the students fairly

this is probably a bold move by staff members to antaganise the Whole student population to help them become militant and prepare them for the outside world to organize riots and like in areas where there is a peaceful atmosphere
